Africa Innovation House at SXSW 2024 Recap
To promote international collaboration and showcase African-led solutions addressing global challenges, The Beta Collective hosted an inspiring forum on entrepreneurial innovation for climate resilience. The event was titled "Entrepreneurial Innovation for Climate Resilience: Shaping Africa's Sustainable Future."
The forum launched with a fireside chat hosting Will Glazener (Co-Founder and COO of Terralytiq) and Maj Adebayo Adeleke (CEO of Watch Technologies), where innovations in climate resilience and sustainability were explored. They shared insights on how entrepreneurs can engage in the carbon economy, overcome barriers to entry, understand the impact of policies on market participation, and learn from successful carbon economy initiatives in Africa.
Our forum showcased sustainability innovations by startups, addressing the challenges of scaling sustainable solutions. We also examined the critical roles of government and private investment in these efforts. The featured startups included:
- Ryan Wikoff, Founder of Forever Flight Worldwide, focused on creating energy-independent, pollution-free airports.
- Adebayo Dawodu, CEO of Parallel Score, leveraging data to contribute to sustainable solutions.
Participants left the event motivated to drive climate resilience in their fields. The event also included networking and interactive sessions, fostering dialogue and collaboration among attendees.
